"I will never do this again!" This is what I said three years ago when Steve's Mom and GC came to visit us for the 4th of July and we went downtown (Nashville) to see the fireworks and hang out. Ethan had just turned 2 and I was 4 months pregnant with Sam. Needless to say, It was not fun for me. It was hot and crowded and we had to stand in the street to watch the "poppy crackers" as Ethan called them back then (and still does today!)
Well, guess what we did on Friday for the 4th??? Yep, you guessed it--we went downtown and it was MY idea! This time we planned ahead and went down early and got a spot in front of the stage. The kids played in the FREE family fun zone on the bouncy things. We had dinner and then settled in for the music and fireworks. The kids did great for such a long day. It was hot, but not as bad as it could have been. It was crowded, but we didn't notice it as much down on the grass.
We were "rained" on with the debris from the "poppy crackers" and that was a little weird and unexpected, but we had a great view and they were fabulous! Mamaw and GC were there too and the kids loved that!
So, Happy Birthday America! We appreciate the freedom we have in our country and the price paid for it.

and i must say that i was a little shocked to hear you guys were downtown for the fireworks, and now am even more shocked that it was YOUR idea. wow.
